The practice

A language of
colour and gesture.

Paternu builds images through broad sweeps, compressed fields and abrupt shifts of colour. Each canvas balances spontaneity with a strong internal structure.

Across this group of works, cobalt, turquoise, ochre, crimson and luminous yellow overlap in dense passages. Marks remain visible: dragged pigment, dry-brush texture and sharp-edged forms record the physical act of painting. The result is direct and energetic, yet leaves space for the viewer’s own associations.

Born in Ljubljana in 1972, Paternu holds a Bachelor of Fine Art and a Master’s degree in abstract painting from the Academy of Fine Arts, Ljubljana. His work has been presented in Slovenia and internationally for more than three decades.
