John Dobson

John Dobson is an American contemporary artist based in St. Louis, Missouri. His practice centres on the relationship between life, love, energy, consciousness and the universe. Working primarily in acrylic, he brings vivid colour together with symbolic imagery and abstraction. His gallery biography identifies him with OneArt, an approach grounded in the belief that art can express an underlying unity between people, nature and the cosmos. The paintings invite viewers to consider these connections through an emotional as well as a visual encounter.

The works presented by Studio 54 Fine Art show this approach taking several forms. The Lovebeings portraits focus on individual people within the broader idea of shared connection. Lovebeings – Alex, dated 2025, is made in acrylic on card mounted on foam core; other works in the series include Alicia and Solo. A second strand translates words and ideas into colour: the gallery describes HOPE, dated 2016, as a OneArt Color Translation of the word. Photography is also part of the represented selection, including Lightning Hands from 2012. Across these different formats, the recurring emphasis is on the energy and relationships that Dobson sees as joining lived experience to a larger whole. His work is available through Studio 54 Fine Art on both Artsy and Artnet.
